Latino Legislator of the Week – Congressman John Salazar preserving Colorado’s scenic land!

July 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This week’s Latino legislator of the week is is Representative John Salazar (D-CO) who is proposing legislation with Congressman Mark Udall (D-CO) and his brother Ken Salazar (D-CO) in the Senate to protect the Roan Plateau. The pro-gas lobby wants to drill in the Roan Ridge for natural gas.

The Bureau of Land Management wants to lease wildlife and natural gas on the Roan Plateau for drilling. Hunters and fisherman want to preserve as much of Roan as possible. As expected, the Bush administration supports the drilling despite objections from Colorado citizens.

John Salazar has also come out and openly criticized the oil and gas companies for price manipulation by withholding production. You can read about it here in a local town hall policy Q&A session he held in Steamboat Springs.

Just today President Bush lifted a presidential ban imposed by his own father for offshore oil drilling. This move will likely not impact gas prices at the pump at all because of the time it will take to extract the oil (assuming there is as much available as scientists suspect). A few years back, President Bush told the nation that we were addicted to oil. Will drilling for more oil and natural gas end this addiction? I don’t think so.

The Salazar brothers and Udall have it right and have Colorado’s best interests at heart while the Bush administration only has the oil industries interest at heart.
the executive order Bush issued yesterday is an abuse of his presidential powers.
