Congresswoman Linda Sanchez engages constituents via tele-townhall meetings

July 27th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez was mentioned in the Whittier Daily News this week for having tele townhall meetings with citizens from her district. As many has 5,000 residents were on the conference call, and approximately 400 people stayed on the line for most of the hour.

I think that tele townhalls and web conferencing will become more common the future, especially with $4+ per gallon gas. Congresswoman Sanchez said that the phone conference townhalls gave her access to more constituents at once as the typical townhall meeting would hold about 300 people. She also mentioned that these conference calls won’t stop her from working in her district and meeting with her constituents. Face to face time is still important, but I’m all for maximizing the use of technology. Congratulations to Congresswoman Linda Sanchez for reaching out to her district via telephone. I can’t wait to hear from my own representatives this way.

This is a wonderful way of connecting with people – we can no longer rely on one method of communication.
