you might be right Michaelr, more the reason to get his name out there and promote him not only as a great choice for the new administration but as an excellent role model to young latino who aspire to be true public servants.

I wholeheartedly agree with your analysis, but actually Ambassador Cresencio Arcos is extremely rare. I challenge you to find two other Latinos with his credentials who have spent most of their professional career in public service without selling their office. Chris Arcos is truly an anomaly.

...rereading a blog by Seneca I came accross the name of the only latino ever named to the Presidential Intelligence Advisory Board (both under Clinton and Bush)...Ambassador Cresencio Arcos...I googled him, he has quite an extensive list of credentials...he is the type of latino that we should promote...his name should be given to the Obama team...we need to promote latinos who are not politicians but true public servants who have rendered their distinguished service without personal agenda...he would be a great Deputy Secretary or Assistance Secretary...I am sure there are others like him that can make us proud.

Cronyism practiced to an art form. And you wonder why federal agencies ceased to function coherently during the Bush Administration. All the best and the brightest went to work for the Fortune 500.

" Many consider the use of 'Hispanic' by the Census Bureau to label Latinos as inappropriate or not agreed by the Latino community."

While going through junior high in the late '70's I began to notice my classmates began to call me a "Hispanic". I began to get greatly confused because my mom had told me I had been born in Mexico therefore I always referred to myself as Mexican. All of a sudden I was being called a "Hispanic" to my distraught. I believe I even challenged my classmates to locate "Hispanicland on the map. I see now that it is as real as Narnia.

Later in high school I discovered the word "Chicano". I looked up the definition in the dictionary and felt more comfortable with that label even though to this day my mom continues to dislike the term. During college is when "Chicano" became more than a label, it became an identity to me.

To this day I will never check any box where "Hispanic is listed as a descriptor. If Chicano/Latino is not listed then I always write "Mexican" in the "other" box.
