Hilda Solis confirmation being held up by GOP

January 26th, 2009 · 6 Comments

This morning I read two short commentaries about Hilda Solis’s confirmation troubles. I don’t have much to add other than I hope that she crosses the hurdle and is sworn in soon. Courtesy of the HuffPo and Mario Solis-Marich, you can learn more here, or you can read an even shorter explanation at feministing. More importantly, why does the GOP want to obstruct a nominee who supports a basic level of worker’s rights? Hilda Solis is committed to getting this country working again and promoting green economy jobs. It is time that we restore a basic level of respect for the American worker.

Don’t hold your breath…since he got the latino vote, i’ve seen little to believe he’s going to throw his weight to help (latinos) her get in. He helped his new Treasurer, we’ll see if she’s that important to him too.

This is what happens when a politician has strong convictions that favor the People. In this case, Hilda Solis’ plans to revitalize union labor and institute livable wages, which is obviously a threat to most of those GOP Senators blocking her nomination. Change and the ambition to force change scare the powers that be. This is a public servant you should take note of, and admire only because they are so rare.

Politics can be a brutal game – even for people who are idealistic.

Will someone please explain what a “green economy job” is. It sounds like another federal job to increase the size of our already too massive government. Another such branch of the government is the Department of Energy which was established in the 70s. It purpose, get this, was to relieve our dependency on foreign oil. Thats worked out real well hasn’t it? A down sized government is a better solution than creating more government branches that do not accomplish their goals.

They’re creating these public sector jobs to stimulate the economy. The anti-government ideology that we’re heard since 1980, has failed. As long as you vote for Republicans, the government and the economy won’t work. How many economic crashes have to take place until people get it? The whole reason their party exists is to destroy the public sector. You see, I remember how good it was before Republicans took over everything.
