Trial Set for Fabian Nuñez’s Son

April 22nd, 2009 · 3 Comments

Esteban Nuñez, the eldest son of former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez who has been accused in the stabbing death of Luis Santos, has been given an October 5 trial date along with his three co-defendant friends. If convicted, they would each face 25 years to life in prison. Nuñez is currently out on bail along with co-defendant Rafael Garcia.

Some people who comment on this blog have said that Fabian Nuñez is no longer relevant in California politics. However, his influence continues. A pajarito told me that on Monday evening, Fabian Nuñez was seen dining with current Assembly Speaker Karen Bass at Spataro Restaurant across from the State Capitol. Karen Bass has been in the news this week for handing our raises to Assembly aides in the range of 5-5.5% during a historic budget shortfall only to rescind the pay hikes a day later because of the public outrage. Perhaps Bass had a momentary lapse in judgement while in the presence of Nuñez, who has a history of similar brain farts.

Thank you Los Angeles Times for informing the public about this attempted theft by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and her political cohorts in the California State Assembly. And thank you Latinopoliticsblog for posting it, and reminding us that the public thefts instigated in the past by the California Assembly will no longer go unnoticed.

Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories.
