You’re forgetting about the double standard that exists with the print media. They have relished in their opportunities for the last two decades to castrate male politicians, but they completely ignore adultery related behavior by female politicians. You had those stories of Sarah Palin that were ignored, and Nancy Reagan’s fling with Frank Sinatra when Reagan was governor, and Low-Low who has been engaging in this type of behavior way before she was even elected to public office. The ugliness of Low-Low’s adultery is that it’s financed by the taxpayer. All the world traveling that she does with him. All the money that she accepts from his lobbying group to influence her decisions on the Armed Services Committee, which is a definite conflict of interest. And all the questionable expenses she’s reimbursed for by the GAO, especially for those stupid 140K Happy New Year cards see www.OpenSecrets.org You would think as a matter of public service, in protecting the interests of the U.S. taxpayer, the New York Times would at least write an article on this. Then again, Low-Low is a U.S. politician of absolute total insignificance within the whole U.S. political power structure. She just takes up space. While she remains in office, the Latino community in her district will never receive even a private gesture of support. The comments and lies she has told to public interest groups and high school students, conveys what an ugly human being this Low-Low actually is.

Meanwhile Rep. Loretta Sanchez will have a hard time defending her seat in Congress after her own sex scandal breaks. Her refusal to answer the mounting questions about her own adultery scandal ( much juicier than Sanford's), demonstrates that she believes she has something to hide. If the allegations about her adultery with her married military escort were false, you can be sure she would have denied it by now. Instead, it is obvious that she has given strict instructions to her staff to stonewall all inquiries. Her conduct in using her official travel to pursue a relationship with a married officer is just as reprehensible as Sanford’s, yet the “mainstream” media refuses to investigate and report on it. This can only be explained by their desire to protect a cherished political ally, because apparently the public’s appetite for these political sex scandal stories is insatiable. Just look at the obsession with the Sanford case.

I am glad to see that Jerry Brown is considering a comeback. Did you know that he almost beat Clinton for the Democrat presidential nomination in 1992?

Gov. Brown advocated a national flat tax of 13% (with the urging of the late, great conservative Republican economist Jude Wanniski).

Since then, he left the Democrat Party (though he may have rejoined, since then), and I think he may also have become pro-life.

I would prefer a Republican (though someone much more conservative than Arnold!), but if that seat is going to go Dem again, a maverick like Jerry Brown might be the best option.

Will the once-Golden State become great again?

Who cares if Mel was a nickname. His last name, Almada, was a Spanish surname, and it was no secret that he was born in Mexico. Plus he was brown. He wasn't "hiding" anything.

I didn't say that there wasn't any racism at all against Mexican-American players back then. Obviously there was. I objected to the notion that there weren't any openly non-white Mexicans who played in the majors before 1947. That's false. Calling yourself "Mel" instead of Baldomero doesn't make you white. Almada wasn't mentioned because he doesn't fit into the official history, or narrative, which is that Mexicans
are all newcomers who didn't do anything until other minorites paved the way. That's politcally correct BS.

It' like when Ken Burns excluded Mexican-Americans from his WWII "documentary."
If they can't show us as segregated, or otherwise "less than," then they just exclude us.

As usual, you miss the larger point, and focus on minutiae.

Anna, as usual, knows nothing. Go figure out what the real names of "Mel" and "Leo," where, then ponder the mystery of why La Habra native Jesus Flores took the name "Jesse" while playing in the majors during the 1940s.

When o' when can we be rid of this retch-ed woman. I wish some of you people would get over your hatred of white men - especially since white men from Europe built the country from a tribal war zone and buffalo waste deposit, into the greatest country for all races ever seen on this planet. Get over it! I vote for whoever agrees with me, and I do not care what color she/he is. That does not even figure into my thinking at all. But if there's a Sanchez name on the ballot every Latino/a from here to Mexico city will automatically vote for that person. That's how we got Lowlow (with the majority white population also, ofcourse, and a lot of cheating, ofcourse.

FormerStaffer; you’ve obviously worked for Loretta Sanchez, or should we now formally address her as Low-Low, anyways…I’ve just listened to this interview she gave on NPR where she describes herself as a former investment banker, and how she and twenty-four of her banker friends could have easily solved this economic crisis. I mean it was something completely out of “Monty Python.,” anyway…do you think Low-Low is several cans short of a six pack? I realize she’s very clever with her expenses reimbursement with the GAO, but a…this woman speaks on NPR as if she’s had a frontal lobotomy.
