Rep. Loretta Sanchez pretends to get technical

September 4th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez remains one of the more colorful Latino characters in the House of Representatives, and she’s always been a popular topic on this blog for better or worse.

This week the conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation, published a blog post attributed to Rep. Sanchez, but we all suspect that a group of that revolving door of staffers probably wrote the piece. If you have ever heard Loretta Sanchez speak, you quickly become agitated and distracted by the shrill tone, condescending facial expressions, and exaggerated gesturing. And if you have ever flipped through anything more substantive that she has written, such as the book she co-authored with her sister, you will find that she repeats the story about defeating former Congressman Dornan in a “Golly gee, look at me” style.

But to get back to the blog Congresswoman Sanchez wrote for The Heritage, I think that her approach is overly simplistic for a think tank audience. She could have discussed some of the technical issues in cyber security or discussed how she expects the government to compete for cyber security consultants when they command top dollar in the private sector. Or she could have tied the cyber security need into those of average Americans who could become victims of identity theft. Moreover, she could have discussed the current cyber security bill in the Senate and the civil liberties issues involved. She certainly could have expanded upon what she or the staffers cranked out for The Heritage Foundation.

Finally, my favorite quote in the Sanchez blog piece is this, “Further, as the ranking female member on the House Armed Services Committee and Vice-Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, I play a crucial role in making sure the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security have the tools and resources they need to fully defend our civilian and military cyber infrastructure.” As if being female makes her a better arbiter of these technical security issues, right?

Higher education is sometimes wasted on people. Loretta Sanchez is a perfect example of this.

Same here Webby…we keep slamming Loretta, so what? Lets discuss something like where the American Latino stands now with the Obama Administration…many of my fellow Latinos who voted for the POTUS are bailing on him and seriously wishing they hadn’t.

You obviously don’t know that your political relationship with the federal government begins with your Congressional Representative, then your Senator, and then your President. I don’t want to proceed with a simple civics lesson regarding the three branches of the federal government, but you should reconsider forming opinions from religious perspectives and absorbing all the lies that proceed from that particular bully pulpit. Hiding behind, and infusing religious dogma into a political debate doesn’t allow you the vision to procure any working solution viable to suit the masses. You sound as ignorant as those Islamic terrorists you were supposedly hunting in Iraq. Use that G.I. Bill money to go to college and get an education, so you can determine what are lies, and what is truth.
