While I am a defender of free speech, there is a case that many of the Dittoheads, Sons of a Beck, and Lou Dobbs himself obviously forgot about the opinion of Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes in Schenk vs. United States 1919. Since these fearmongers believe that they are at war, their speech does represent a clear and present danger.

If Dobbs would condemn the murders of Luis Ramirez and Marcelo Lucero and the assault on Jordan Gruver while getting his point across, then I would say he is protected by the first amendment, but since he hasn’t and is more than likely a catalyst for such incidents, then he needs eat what he dishes out to others.

If people can mouth off about how some rap artists and their lyrics affect those who watch listen and parrot them, then people can certainly mouth off about how Dobbs, Dumbaugh, and Beck(erhead) are affecting the minds of those who are watching, listening and parroting them too.

That whole sub-culture of Jesus people just can’t stand to see people of color running things in DC. If Jesus was around today, he certainly wouldn’t claim them as his own people. He’d have some four letter words to describe Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, Rush Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin.

If they want to help their cause, they need to change the laws. Free speech and immigration are already on the books.

I personally am offended that no one was this passionate about those who did not migrate here (Black Americans & Natives) and those who followed the law but are struggling with equal rights and are in need of assistance…that is the real shame.

i think its really sad that as a country we are SO BEHIND in thinking. Come on, birthers? illegal aliens? fear mongering? I’m all about free speech, but when do we draw the line on free speech and hate speech? maybe the video could do a better job in addressing the context, but a poor video doenst omit the obvious issue.

You guys are funny. Embrace the freedom of speech. An agenda to stop the freedom of speech is undemocratic in a free society.. People who try to control speech and live in fear of others who speak freely will succumb to a more stringent form of government. Best part of the freedom of speech is that people like Dobbs will eventually falter at some point in time due to their inconsistencies. Even Geraldo Rivera, releasing an unsubstantiated new story regarding the survival of miners, which was found to be untrue. Even the Lou Dobbs video is quite weak and simple unbelievable. Its fractured integration of nipets of the words hate and race associated with Lou Dobbs, but really says nothing that he is what you say he is. Find the racist remarks that Lou Dobbs made as well as the hate against hispanics, this will give some integrity to the video. It otherwise doesn’t give a bit of validity or integrity to your campaign.

Hey there, this is Sasha Costanza-Chock, I’m a media activist and researcher based at the Institute for Multimedia Literacy in Los Angeles.

A couple quick observations on the bastadobbs campaign. The campaign is great and important and I’m glad it exists but these are some suggestions to make it more effective:

1. The action

Currently the action you’re asking the user to take is to send a form email, with an optional personal comment, to CNN president Jon Klein. But:

* emails to CNN president don’t generate pressure on the network. A lot of research shows that the only effective way to pressure the network is through advertisers.

* The action here should be to select some key companies that advertise on CNN and may be sympathetic, then have the user pledge to boycott and/or contact those companies asking them to pull ads from lou dobbs’ show.

* For example see http://www.colorofchange.org/beck/

* No matter what the target, form emails are the least effective. They’ll get caught in an email filter on the other end. Instead of allowing the user to add an additional comment, autofill the form with your prewritten comment and ask the user to edit / change it to be their own.

2. The mobile interface

Kudos for setting up a shortcode and allowing people to connect that way. But a couple things:

* People who text in don’t get any action item! You just ask for their email and zip code. This is a big missed opportunity. If I text in it’s because I’m ready to do an action that moment. Ask them to DO something, for example: send them the number of a targeted company to call and ask to pull advertising from Dobbs. Ask them to text or email (from their phone) to a target.

* Send them a message that is DESIGNED for them to forward to their contacts, with the key info points about the campaign!

OK, gotta run. Keep up the good work.
