The majority of politicians running Latin America are lackeys of Corporate America. With the exception of Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers in Cuba, everyone down there is owned by Dole Foods, Anaconda Mining, Monsanto, Archer, Midland, Daniels, Chiquita International, Wal Mart, and all the cocaine cartels. Then again, so are many members of Congress. So the real challenge is finding political leadership who aren’t indentured servants to multinational corporatism.

You have a point. Quite possibly coexistence at the bottom of America’s social ladder isn’t a fertile environment for producing bona fide political leadership. As you’ve indicated, the vast majority of Latino political leaders here in the U.S. are… what did you call them? Self serving egomaniac public lowlifes with limited vision, and no scruples…maybe its cultural, after all that label can be easily applied to the vast majority of political leadership running Latin America.

The same type of people who vote for Loretta and Linda Sanchez, Grace Napolitano, and Joe Baca. People who vote for politicians based exclusively on their Spanish surnames, without evaluating any other vital criteria that could really benefit the Latino community as a whole. Or maybe it’s the reality that our Latino community has such real difficultly producing political leaders with vision and actual scruples.

Since you brought up Latino/Latina class acts in American politics, I think you’ve forgotten the legislative accomplishments of Congressional Representative Raul Grijalva from Arizona’s 7th district, and his ability to not succumb to the idiotic buffoonish behavior of his male compadres in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. After viewing the antics of Silvestre Reyes and Solomon Ortiz on C-Span last week, I wonder what type of people actually voted for these idiots.

Outside of Hilda Solis, Sonia Sotomayer is the only other human being of Latina descent to shine brightly amid the guttural stream of American politics today. Both these women are obviously intelligent, and parade themselves accurately as total class acts. And it’s their public behavior that should be viewed as a benchmark for all Latino politicians. The Latino men especially should take note of this.
