Please...Dobbs does more than just oppose illegal immigration. He LIES. He has said that Mexican bring leprosy across the border and that Mexicans are secretly plotting to takeover America.

The people who own CNN keep Dobbs and his lies on the air to scapegoat Mexicans for the economic crisis that was caused by Wall St. crooks.

Ted Turner has said that if he still owned CNN he would fire Dobbs. I wish he did still own CNN. It was reputable back then. Now it is trash like the rest of the media. The only decent news station left is BBC America.

People need to stop whining and either cancel their cable, or boycott CNNs advertisers. They'll only respond if they think they might lose money.

Dobbs is an "opinionated commentator", much like Bill Oreilly on Fox...the reason you want him removed is b/c you lose CNN as an all Liberal show piece. Truth is no one here can dispell what Dobbs is saying: Illegals are a problem to our crime, economy and health, when illegally cross the border unchecked.

Whatever the real % is, 6, 20, is too much for us to deal with as far as prison space is concerned. To rationalize 6% as miniscual when the point us, illegals do pose a crime problem; a problem we could easily avoid if we sealed/protected our borders better.

As for the CNN docudrama, it was a joke! Goes to show we have no single concentrated voice leading a cause like say the NAACP(although I think their idiots too).

Here is a good interview with the human rights activist Isabel Garcia shown on "Latino in America":

You could call Isabel Garcia an inconvenient woman. Inconvenient because she speaks her mind—like it or not. She has raised the ire of anti-immigrant groups and the Mexican government alike...

I watched some of the show last night. I saw the segments on Pico Rivera, Shenandoah, PA and Orlando, FLA.

I'm glad she covered what happened to Luis Ramirez in Shenandoah. That story needed to be told. I thought she marred it, though, by showing that Puerto Rican guy with the big ears who was complaining about being called Mexican, as if mistaken identity, and not his race, is the reason he's not accepted. Puerto Ricans have a long history of being targeted and discriminated against and it has nothing to do with Mexicans.

The Pico Rivera story--It was OK. She spent too much time on that girl who dropped out of school. What about all the kids who graduate and go to college? Those kids will never see the light of day on CNN. When she called that city a Latino Mayberry, I thought it was ridiculous, even mean, until I saw Shenendoah, PA. That place looked so depressed and run down, with houses going for ten thousand a year. At least in Pico Rivera, your home is worth something, even in this economy.

Orlando, FLA--She spent little time on the engineer and most of the time on the Puerto Rican guy who flunked his police officer exam. Why spend all that TV time just to show him fail? Furthermore, the series ended on that note.

I don't know if this is Soledad O'Brien's view of the world, or CNN's, but she wasn't the best person to do this series. Her view of the world is skewed. They should have had a team of reporters covering this.

I would have liked to see some successful people. O'Brien seems to think that the most successful Mexican-Americans are in Hollywood. Please. I want to see astronaut Jose Hernandez, brain surgeon Dr. Q, and Nobel Prize winner Dr. Mario Molina.

Did any Mexican/Chicano reporters work on this? Probably not. CNN doesn't hire any reporters of Mexican descent.

More fiction and misdirection from people who are so far removed from Latino culture their stories are superficial. Soledad O’Brien was the wrong person to anchor this. Maybe they should have brought back Lou Dobbs’ wife, Debi Lee Segura, who is Mexican-American, and was at one time a CNN Sports broadcaster to anchor this farce. However, that may have been too comical to take seriously.

It was horribly depressing. On the one hand it did highlight issues still plaguing our community (perhaps drawing attention to needs some might not have known about). On the other hand, it was unbalanced--the positive stories were few and overall it just emphasized how screwed up we are. I was already destroyed by the acquittal of the Shenandoah punks who murdered Eduardo Ramirez; so even a little glimmer of hope might have gone a long way. Instead CNN left us with the final story of poor, unemployed Carlos who couldn't manage to pass a Sheriff's test but did manage to impregnate his girlfriend.

I found the piece well thought out, but poorly executed. It offered VERY little context to the struggles the people featured were going through and even worse, it offered very little in terms of ways they could manage their way out of them (Which has been done by Latinos for generations). Although it was very different work, I very much hoped that the series would take the shape of the recent Brick City documentaries about Newark that not only showcased the struggle of living in urban/racialized environments, but also offered solutions and hope that these people can not only go far in their own lives despite these issues, but also can make the whole city a better place. We know Latinos are important are to our communities culturally and economically, you just NEVER got a sense of that at least in the first part...

@H.McGill - What specifically has George Lopez said in his comedy routine that give you reason to claim that he is racist? His comment about tv becoming whiter is in fact true, so I don't see how his comment would be deemed racist.

For instance the nightly "opinion-punditry-circuit" is pretty much made up of a bunch of old-white dudes, mainly Beck, Hannity & Lou Dobbs who have found ranting about undocumented immigrants and illegal immigration their formula for boosting their ratings.

As for Lou Dobbs citing information that is factually incorrect, you need just look at two claims he has made that have been widely discredited. The first is his claim that an increase in leprosy cases was attributed to Mexican immigrants, the second that 1/3 of the prison inmates in this country are illegal immigrants which number is closer to 6%.

This is a fact. Lou Dobbs is loose with his facts and has used illegal immigration to rescue a sagging journalist career. Another fact, is that he's a dinosaur, a relic of the old-tv-media-machine that is no longer relevant in the internet era of today.

BTW, NCLR is a Latino Advocacy group and MALDEF is a legal defense fund. So, that being said what exactly is an "illegal immigrant" advocate group? I've never heard of one and surely none exist, except maybe in your mind, so can you name one?

So racism is o.k. as long as one is not a journalist? I understand your point. This is why I don't get the fervor over Beck or Hannity who have opinion shows. I will say that Lopez gets away with racism that has not been tolerated when displayed by others. But I digress into the double-standard conundrum. Well at least that is an answer. Could you please tell me if you have found Dobb's information factually inaccurate. I have not watched Dobbs in 2 years but when I did I was not able to find his facts wrong. They just seem at odds with illegal immigrant advocate groups.
