Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez & the Lobbyists!

December 13th, 2009 · 27 Comments

Congresswoman Sanchez’s lobbyist connections have been explored on this blog before. As the clock ticks toward the midterm elections next year, new sources and allegations about what Rep. Loretta Sanchez has been doing with her lobbyist friends have been brought to my attention. Some may wonder why I continue to entertain the information from my sources in Washington, D.C., but I think that in an environment where people are becoming more aware of transparency and the influence of lobbyists on governing, it is worth examining.

This weekend I received a tip about Representative Sanchez and the Director of Federal Programs, Maritime Sector for Halcrow, Inc., who is a man named John Saylor. Allegedly, John Saylor has become romantically involved with Congresswoman Sanchez in recent months. Saylor chaired a conference on “Global Competitiveness and the Impact on US Exports” last month at the Department of Commerce in DC, and the Congresswoman was a scheduled speaker for this same conference.

Saylor, in his role as Director of Federal Programs, Maritime Sector for Halcrow, deals with issues relating to port security, which may come before the Congresswoman’s subcommittee on Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism. My source has revealed that John Saylor has been going around claiming to have slept with Loretta Sanchez and that he vacationed with her in Italy earlier in the year. This photo has surfaced, in which we can pretty much identify Congresswoman Sanchez, and the man behind her with his arms around her is supposedly John Saylor. First, there was an allegation about Jack Einwechter, now there is an allegation about John Saylor, and conveniently both men have business before the Congresswoman’s committees. Doesn’t this smell a bit like the Michael Duvall debacle?

One other thing that I did learn about John Saylor is that he, like Jack (John) Einwechter did in the past, contribute to Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s re-election campaign fund, dropping $300 back in July of this year.

This account provides just a glimpse into Loretta Sanchez’s priorities, as she represents California’s 47th Congressional district. If this photo was in fact taken in Italy, it should come as no surprise, as she was just there with the Semester at Sea program during the summer. Another source close to Sanchez had also revealed to me in the past that the Congresswoman had hopes of becoming the ambassador to Italy had Hillary Clinton won the presidential election last year. You can hear the interview she gave Semester at Sea here on youtube.

Since Loretta Sanchez’s public behavior defines what is corrupt about Congressional representatives and their relationships with lobbyists, transparency in theory should remove so many of them from office. However, you can bet someone out there in left field will be defending Loretta Sanchez’s behavior only because she has a Spanish surname, and because she’s an individual and has the right to prostitute herself on the public’s dime to further the lunacy of that double standard. Loretta Sanchez should thank her lucky stars she is not a white man in public office, because the mainstream media would have long ago crucified her and labeled her for what she truly is. It seems the Latino community in more interested in promoting and demanding celebrity and philandering behavior amongst their politicians, (see Antonio Villaraigosa and Fabian Nunez) than actual public service. Another reason the Latino community will always be at the bottom of American culture looking up.

Adriana: Congrats on finally nabbing your Moby Dick? How long before Ana spews her apologist spin? HAHAHAHA!

  • 3 Anna // Dec 14, 2009 at 2:57 pm

It’s not apologist. If there were some EVIDENCE of unethical/illegal/wrong behavior, that would be one thing. But this is just more innuendo.

Anna the Latino apologist has her group of fellow cholitas all making excuses for Loretta Sanchez’s inability to produce legislation and progressive political inroads. They just love giving their tax dollars to a politician who creates space and sees the world on their dime.

I would like to be introduced to all those supposed poor people in Santa Ana and Garden Grove that Loretta Sanchez has supposedly helped. How could a public servant who is so narrow-minded and cruel against the “Dream Act,” be a friend to the poor? Those of us who engage with Loretta know there isn’t a noble or generous bone in her body, and this mythology promoted by these Latino apologists’ just works to undermine any political progression for the Latino community. She is part of the dysfunctional area of Congress that needs to disappear for economic prosperity to be realized.

Oooo yes…this is what the Latino community wants. The Latino community wants its public servants traveling all over the world on the taxpayer’s dime sleeping with Lobbyists that have direct financial interest in doing business with various departments of the federal government that they oversee. The Latino community is so proud of its Congressional representatives who write very little legislation, print lies on their websites, spend their waking hours in Italy, at the Playboy mansion, and at the South Coast Plaza. The Latino community just loves a Congressional representative who only shows up in their district to raise money a week before Christmas at over $240 a pop. And The Latino community just loves a supposed Latina Congressional representative who defecates all over the “the Dream Act,” especially whenever she is forced to mingle with high school Latino students who ask her to co-sponsor it. And the Latino community just wants the U.S. Congress to be as corrupt and dysfunctional as all the other Latin American governments, and in supporting Loretta Sanchez for any public office you are saying just that.

Kaiser, I have to agree with you on this one. At least for the time being, or until, we as Latinos can produce leaders that truly have the best interest of their constituents. Congresswoman Sanchez is certainly riding her Latina roots all the way to the bank. I’ll be honest though, I’m not up to snuff on OC politics, but there has to be someone around that can challenge her for that seat. At this point, she’s just a puppet for lobbying groups, and although I realize that lobbyist control Washington Politics, at least lobbyist get things done for their constituents. For more than what Congresswoman Sanchez probably does for hers.

The question lies in this…How can we as educated Latinos educate her constituents on what she’s really about????

    IE:
That’s the same question I asked in the early 1980’s. And have spent the last thirty years watching duplicitous slimy self-serving people get elected. The internet has been a great tool to somewhat educate those who don’t want to go to college, but not seeking a higher education has been a self-defeating instrument of the Latino community. But you can’t enlighten everyone. Some people just love shouting their ignorance. Look at that Latino Apologist, Anna. She’s a prime example of race baiting tell-a-lie-here-and-there-thinking. The Latino community has gotten more legislative support from Senator Edward Kennedy than the entire Congressional Hispanic Caucus combined. Who’s going to fill that role? Not Loretta Sanchez, not Joe Baca, not Linda Sanchez. And that should tell you something about our own Latino politicians in general.

  • 10 DoctorH // Dec 14, 2009 at 5:08 pm

Loretta Sanchez a puppet of Lobbyists? Hardly… I don’t think Loretta remembers what that Lobbyist wanted, and what that other Lobbyist wanted and so on and so on. Loretta is only interested in constant flirtation, accepting money from whomever, and continuing to travel the world on the taxpayer’s dime. Sleeping with Lobbyists is just one of the perks. Because she has no principles and no political agenda, Loretta is not a threat to her Congressional colleagues, or to American corporate interests. She is content to write lies on her website, and continue the mythology that she does so much for the nameless poor who survive only because of her. This is Loretta Sanchez.

Kaiser, I commend you then for carrying the fight over the last thirty years. I’ve been working in online advertising over the last 5 years with companies such as Yahoo, and I have been able to really understand the power of the internet. I think the key thing to remember is that things will change in the near future more than some politicians really know. The internet is real time and no one can really hide from their idiotic escapades. I think one of the major things that we (folks posting on sites such as this) can do to help the cause is try and find a way to have a collective voice online. In my opinion, currently the few Latino political bloggers online are too fragmented. If we can bring them all together in one online place, then it will make it easier to reach the Latino online masses.

I’m tossing this one around currently. More to come on that one in the near future.

In the meantime, continue to spread the word.

Anna, it’s the old adage. If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, then it’s a duck. Don’t be so naive. You have to remember how some men think. Maybe it’s not Congresswoman being shady, but those two lobbyist know what they’re doing when they decide to hook up with her. Their not lobbyists because their “pendejos”, their lobbyists because they know how to work the system. Congresswoman Sanchez’s appetite for being in the limelight makes her an easy target for those types of men to take advantage of her political capital. Let’s see if this new guy doesn’t get some favorable votes and then just bounces on this charade of a relationship.

  • 13 theKaiser // Dec 14, 2009 at 9:42 pm

There will emerge a hybrid Latino subculture that demands acceptance, change, and accountability from political representatives. And they won’t make apologies for politicians with Spanish surnames, and they won’t be gullible to the lies posted on Congressional websites, and the inept excuses of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. And they’ll be Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Californios, Tejanos, Dominicans, Central Americans, and South Americans. And their only link to each other will be through their blogs floating in CyberSpace. That subculture is already here, and blowhards like Anna the Apologist will continue to be blowhards like Anna the Apologist.

You people need to find real news to write about!

This is rumor. Like I said on Orange Juice Blog, there is no way that Hottie Loretta Sanchez is hooking up w/ that old dude.

But also, this is her personal affairs. She is allowed to date, she is single.

I’m going to assume ya’ll aren’t perfect… Get off your high horse! Stop judging her on stupid stuff like this. Look at her voting record. She votes for LATINOS! Stick w/ your people… hate all those other 5 excuses for human beings in Orange County (aka the 5 republican representatives). Focus your anger on them!

Displaying more evidence she’s a crackpot! El Cholo was convinced Anna was some middle-aged tattooed cholita from San Gabriel, but now it’s pretty obvious she’s a sandbox bully suffering from multiple so-called feminist apologist personalities. And she continues to state that Congressional Representatives who sleep with Lobbyists doing business with Congressional committees they oversee is not an unethical violation. Hmmmm… and you have a further exemption from this rule if you have a Spanish surname. We’re still waiting for all those poor families in Santa Ana to explain how Loretta Sanchez has helped them throughout the 12 years she’s occupied space in Congress.

  • 17 jammer // Dec 15, 2009 at 2:01 pm

look, Loretta is just keeps getting the biggest bang for our taxpayer dollar. At least this way keeps her entertained and out of really important business where she could be dangerous. As long as her constituents keep sending her back, we will all have something to laugh about and Anna will have someone to apologize about. Too bad it has to also give our community a black eye.

This is just another case of a lobbyist who exaggerated his relationship with a member of congress. Saylor spread rumors that he was Loretta’s lover and attempted to prove it with this picture. He is a liar and the picture proves nothing. Loretta has been in an exclusive, committed relationship with one man, Jack Einwechter, for years. All the other rumors and innuendoes are false. I don’t blame this blog for reporting the rumors, but Saylor is a liar. He has no relationship with Sanchez. He is a pathetic, burnt out, over-the-hill lobbyist trying to show that he still has game by claiming he scored with a good looking congresswoman. These are the simple facts.
