An Interesting Juxtaposition of LA Council member Jose Huizar

January 24th, 2011 · 8 Comments

Since we have been following the Los Angeles CD 14 race on the blog, I have kept an eye out for videos of the candidates. Today two videos caught my attention featuring the incumbent Jose Huizar. In the first clip, council member Huizar addresses the infamous “lists” that his staff compiled scoring community members dismissing them because Father Boyle received a low score despite his “saintly” status and solid reputation among the people. This was from a neighborhood forum and does come from the Martinez campaign, but it’s a clever use of Huizar’s own words along with a sinister smile at the end of the clip:

In the next clip, the councilman sits with blogger Sylvia Robledo of Political Sazon:

This second clip is actually nice because it humanizes Huizar and provides a glimpse into his outside life with his charming wife, Richelle. But unfortunately, Robledo doesn’t ask any policy or political questions so this doesn’t give the council member an opportunity to talk about his record or why he is running for re-election. To me, this is a campy fluff piece that does a decent job of softening Huizar’s image for the voters, and perhaps this was all that was intended. And in fairness, I don’t know when Huizar sat for this interview with Robledo so perhaps the election was not foremost on his mind, but it is interesting that community members are clamoring for Huizar to answer questions and address their needs and he finds time for this kind of interview.

    My viewpoint..

We have a corrupt political system where the “scum” rises to the top instead of the “cream”..

The slickest and most devious characters make it the farthest..pathological liars, greedy careerists and opportunists who will sell out to the highest bidder at the drop of a hat..
their main priorities are money, power and status instead of honesty, principles and concern for their constituencies….

the victims as always in this type of system are the “little people” -the poor, working, and many in the middle class.

Eating tacos at Mexican restaurants seems to be the politicians favorite trick in duping uneducated and unsophisticated Mexicans.

I mean ask yourself-what kind of ignorant backwards mind would actually be swayed by such “horse’s ass” silliness and nonsense as some ambitious politician scarfing down tacos, wearing big sombreros, slamming down shots of tequila, blabbering “Hola Amigos!” over and over, singing some Mexican folksong off key ??

Sadly, we know there are way too many Mexican minds such as this out there.
They don’t have a clue. They don’t have a chance against the slick politicians-they are almost totally defenseless against them.

As to CD 14 in LA..
It seems to me this uncreative, unimaginative mediocre third rate little politician Huizar is lamely attempting to pathetically ape his “daddy”.. the king of con-men and slick politicians..Obama..it sickens me to see a Latino politician trying to copy and imitate Obama..

The Raza ain’t going anywhere until they get a clue at how these crooks operate, their techniques and deceptive tricks…
it’s important for those who smell the coffee, who have removed their blinders and are able see through the phony charades and political masquerades, to educate and inform others as to how this huge scam and con-game called American politics works..

unless they wake up soon nothing will ever change for the Raza as long as they keep falling for and being duped by these scoundrels, crooks and liars..

they keep going like this the future of the Raza in this country looks dark and foreboding..
the Raza will never progress..they’ll just “slowly and quietly” sink to the bottom of American society where they will remain at the bottom a vast super American “permanent underclass” of poverty,misery,hopelessness..

Do you ever have anything constructive to say?

That video from the Rudy Martinez is clever, but it does nothing to point out or give any reference point on how Martinez would provide a different type of leadership for CD 14 than his political opponent Huizar.

Unfortunately Rudy Martinez’ website does not shed much light on that issue either. I’d be interested in seeing polling data that indicates how Martinez is doing against Huizar.

Lastly, I found the interview by Robledo of Political Sazon to be pure fluff. No more than just another campy interview with a Latino politician. The interview does nothing to address the varied important issues to Latinos, and other ethnic groups that live and work in CD 14.

Thanks for posting and commenting on Political Sazon’s interview with Councilman Jose Huizar. The interview was done in August and if you look at my blog http://www.politicalsazon.blogspot.com all the interviews are in the same format to humanize the elected officials. The goal is to provide role-models in an entertaining way and promoting Mexican restaurants. I fund the videos and they are not approved or paid for by any campaigns or elected officials. It is my mission to have Latinos visible in multi-media formats. I do plan to have videos in the future that speak more seriously of political issues that confront our community; however, my intention is to have positive visible Latinos. Thanks and I enjoy your blog. Sylvia Robledo, Executive Producer
