Some Additional Updates on the Los Angeles CD 14 Race

February 11th, 2011 · 2 Comments

The infamous Michael Trujillo e-mail did not rise to the level of the Los Angeles District Attorney filing charges. Additionally, this week there was a candidate forum where both Rudy Martinez and Jose Huizar pledged to focus on the issues instead of nasty personal attacks. I could not attend this forum, but I did find this clip for you to view:

The LA Downtown News also has a pretty good analysis of this race so far as it enters its remaining few weeks. It looks like Jose Huizar is still in a good position as the incumbent, but I do want to highlight this segment from Rudy Martinez, addressing people who work on their cars on the lawns and campers parked on streets for extended periods of time because I think that these courtesy and basic residential pride issues are ones that many Latino neighborhoods need to work on:

One thing that Martinez seemed to focus on, just from the clips that I saw from this candidate forum, was volunteerism, which is fine. However, I think that residents don’t necessarily have time for more volunteering and that a reduction in services will have to happen for some things that require professional staff.

And finally, here’s another report on this week’s candidate forum.

I have a friend who bought an investment property in Mt. Washington and the real esate agent told him that the area would eventually be gentrified. I wonder if Martinez is part of that plan. I can’t see why the LA Times would endorse a Republican with little experience and a criminal record. My guess is that Huizar is standing in somebody’s way.

Anna, you may want to look at Huizar pattern of approvals, that also have contribution to Huizars campaign. Huizar is part of a plan, it just does not include CD 14. Just look at the funds that Huizar has withdrawn from the CLARTS fund, and follow the money.
