In the race for the Los Angeles City District 14 council seat, the LAPD badge that challenger Rudy Martinez possessed has been brought up by the incumbent’s campaign and widely reported in the media. Well, the badge issue has surfaced again today with the sister of the slain officer David Kubly asking the Huizar campaign to stop using the issue of her brother’s badge in his re-election effort and calling for an LAPD investigation into the handling of the slain officer’s badge. At the time Officer Kubly was killed in action in 1979, Rudy Martinez was in grade school.
Please find the letter from Karen Kubly linked here.
Martinez met with Karen Kubly, sister of slain officer David Kubly, and apologized for the issue being revisited publicly again, and the LA Times reports that Councilmember Huizar will meet with her on Monday.
With a little more than two weeks to go before election day, this race has taken some interesting twists and turns and will come down to voter turnout.
