Jeremy Baca, Congressman Joe Baca’s son, is finding that his past offenses are haunting him in his current run for the city council in Colton, California. Yes, a run for Colton City Council, a small blighted community of about 47,000 outside of San Bernardino, CA — you would think that maybe Jeremy could skate by without criticisms for his prior arrests as it might give him more street credibility, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Check out the latest mailer that Joe Baca’s kid is having to confront.

Jeremy Baca told the The Press-Enterprise, “When you’re campaigning, you should talk about your own merits. When you’re knocking on a door, talking to a resident or sending out a piece of mail … I sent out mailers talking about my vision for Colton — taking care of the graffiti problem, bringing in senior housing, public safety. None of my mailers have mentioned my opponents.” That’s fine and dandy, but negative campaigning is effective.

Last year, Jeremy Baca ran for the Colton City Council and only earned 25% of the vote. I did a Google search for him trying to figure out what he does for a living, and I found this article that says he works in public relations. It also looks like he has an empty Linked-In profile, calling himself the CEO of NJB Associates. Who wants to be that the N in NJB stands for his sister Natalie? The  JB could easily be Jeremy or either of the Joe Bacas. For me, the troubling thing about Jeremy Baca’s arrest record is that these indiscretions occurred when he was in his 30s. He’s a little old for these kinds of run ins with the law, and he needs to remember that the voting public is less forgiving of mistakes made by non-whites. 

“As chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Baca steered CHC funds to the campaigns of his two sons. When Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez called him on it, he did the mature thing and called her a “whore.” Nice. So Baca’s corrupt and venal.”

We have known that Congressman Baca has been trying to get his kids jobs for years. His son Joe Baca Jr. currently sits on the Rialto city council in San Bernardino County, California, and his other son Jeremy, has lost both an assembly race and a run for the Colton city council. Jeremy Baca also has a drunk driving conviction and an earlier arrest related to a fight with an ex-girlfriend. What a lovely role model for los jóvenes in Colton, no? And if you really want proof of how shameless Working Joe Baca can be about trying to hook up his children with jobs, you must listen to this clip of his daughter singing at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Gala, courtesy of the bloggers at the Coconut Caucus. If the Baca children had more talent, I don’t think that the their pops would be labeled among the worst, but I don’t see any Kennedy, Daley, Roosevelt, or even Bush dynasty potential in this gene pool.

Since I started this blog with the big Antonio Villaraigosa (ehr, Villarsalinas) affair, it is only fitting that I mention that Mirthala Salinas, the reporter/girlfriend, who broke the news of the affair on Telemundo, has been reassigned to Riverside in the Inland Empire bureau. I was of the opinion that the station should just fire her, but I guess going to the IE is an appropriate demotion. Now that she’s headed that way… who do you think she’ll hook up with next? Considering there are so many Latinos in the IE, they seem to be lacking in representation on many of the city councils. Hmm… Mirthala seems to prefer Latin men. Or maybe she will go a little older and hook it up with Congressman Joe Baca or maybe even his aspiring politico son Jeremy? Decisions, decisions.
